Introducing the staff of Refuge A (Spilios Agaitos).

MARIA ZOLOTA
MARIA ZOLOTA
Position: Refuge Manager
About: Maria has been the refuge manager since 2001, taking over the role from her father, Kostas, following his retirement. With decades of experience and a deep connection to the mountain, she has become a familiar and trusted presence to generations of visitors. During the quieter winter months, Maria lives in Litochoro, where she remains closely tied to the local community. A devoted animal lover, she also spends time caring for and supporting stray dogs whenever she can, reflecting the same warmth and generosity she brings to the refuge.
DIONYSIOS POURLIOTIS
DIONYSIOS POURLIOTIS
Position: Assistant Refuge Manager
About: Dionysios, the husband of Maria Zolota, has served as assistant manager for as long as Maria has been in charge of the refuge. A constant and dependable presence, he is widely seen as the backbone of the entire operation, taking responsibility for many of the demanding physical and practical aspects that keep the refuge running smoothly day after day. From maintenance and supplies to the countless unseen tasks required in such a challenging mountain environment, his contribution has been invaluable. Reflecting his deep connection to Olympus itself, Dionysios was also once a runner in the Olympus Marathon, a testament to both his endurance and his lifelong bond with the mountain.
